45 candles for Ovidias

45 candles for Ovidias

Ovidias represents fresh Belgian chocolates with homemade fillings and a full, creamy flavour. For 45 years now! What started as a small sweets shop with two employees has grown to become an international business that tends to both private and professional customers. We’ve grown a lot – not just product-wise but also when it comes to sustainability.

Celebrated with several awards

Ovidias' story started with Frans Vangertruyden in 1978. He applied himself to the artisanal creation of marzipan figurines and coconut bars. In 1989, Belgian chocolates were brought to the market for the first time under the label of Ovidias.
Ever since, we’ve taken home several ITQI awards, like the one we received for our Manon with mango and passion fruit. Earlier this year, 4 of our products were rewarded. The ITQI awards are granted by some of the most famous culinary institutes, so we’re very proud and grateful to be receiving those awards.

Flavour, quality and enjoyment

The name Ovidias refers to Ovidius, the Roman writer who was viewed as the ultimate Epicurean. His love for everything delicious inspired us to name our brand after him. To us, he’s the ambassador of sweet delights, a symbol that guarantees the quality and craft Ovididas is known for.

As a tribute to him, we link our collections to Ovidius’ literary art. Well-known names like Amores, Metamorphoses and Amatoria invite you to try out our extensive range of Belgian chocolates.

Because of its 45th birthday, a Festive Edition will be added to the range in October. This includes a box of 250g with a number of new flavours, which were developed with the latest trends and innovations from the chocolate world in mind. The festive box will also be available in Ovidias' webshop.

Cultivated sustainability

We’re also making great strides in terms of sustainability. That’s evident from our sustainability programme “Our commitment to the planet”. This included reducing our carbon emissions by 50% by 2030.
As part of our 45th anniversary, we gave each of our employees a tree. We did this with the help of Kadoboom, a Lignaverda initiative. This non-profit specialises in planting trees in West Africa. In 10 years, the organisation has turned 100 million square metres of desert into forest.

Looking forward to our next birthday together

We’re excited to see what the future has in store for us. But we’re sure about one thing: without the support of our customers, we wouldn’t be where we are today. So: thank you so much, we do everything in our power to keep surprising and delighting you with the very best Belgian chocolates!
