Dark chocolate is good for your heart
Australian research confirms that dark chocolate has health benefits for your heart, at least for people who have an increased risk of heart disease. The study was published in the British Medical Journal.
100 grams of dark chocolate with at least 60% cocoa content daily reduces the risk of a heart attack or stroke. This applies for people who do not have a heart disease but who have an increased risk of developing heart problems. Over a period of ten years this could avoid up to 70 non-fatal and 15 fatal heart disorders or infarctions per 10,000 people.
Dark chocolate’s health benefits due to flavonoids
The researchers suspect that this positive impact on people’s health can be linked to the fact that dark chocolate contains flavonoids. Thanks to these substances dark chocolate reduces both cholesterol and blood pressure.
